Slide Repairs Underway On Thirteen Sites In Pike County

Pikeville, KY — Slide repair work started June 3 on the first of 13 sites in Pike County, according to Vince Hayes of Highway District 12’s Pikeville Section Office. NATTCO is the contractor for all 13 locations. Work hours are 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. at all sites. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with people flagging traffic through the work zones, except for KY 1469, which will require closing the road. Repairs to three locations on KY 1384, Hurricane Creek, have already started and should take a couple of weeks, according to Hayes. After the work on KY 1384 is finished, the contractor will move to KY 2059, Woodman Road, near Persimmon Branch. The next route scheduled is KY 2062, Widow’s Branch, near Ben Allen Hollow. NATTCO has a different crew working on eight sites on three roads in the Robinson Creek/Long Fork area. Work on KY 3415, Little Robinson, KY 1469, Long Fork Road and the third location on 1469 is near Tackett Hollow. Traffic can be flagged through this site. The work on all three locations on 1469 is expected to take a week. As soon as the contractor is finished on KY 1469, work will move to KY 3414, Left Fork of Long Fork, to fix three locations: at Bucklick Fork near Sycamore Branch, another location just above Sycamore Branch, and near Blackburn Branch. According to Sara George, Information Officer, District 12, “We don’t have to plan around school bus traffic, the weather is generally better, and there are more daylight hours. People may encounter work crews on any state road. They could be mowing, striping, fixing breaks, pothole patching, paving, replacing drain tiles and culverts, cleaning out ditch lines, replacing guardrail, and other maintenance jobs. People need to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings, prepared to slow down in work zones and perhaps even be stopped for a few minutes.”
