McDOWELL, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are now investigating the death of Jill Howell, 34, of Prestonsburg.

Howell was found dead following a call October 23 about an unresponsive female in McDowell.

When they arrived at a Back Street residence, officers found Howell’s body. Police said she had been the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s office.

At this time, there are no reports of arrests having been made.

Kentucky State Police Detective Joseph Coleman is leading the investigation and was helped on scene by state police personnel. Howell’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
