MAGOFFIN COUNTY– Police are investigating a string of Magoffin County burglaries and vandalism that stretches from the Floyd/Magoffin County line to Royalton. EKB’s Shawn Allen has the story.

Several businesses in Magoffin County and one in Floyd County have fell victim to burglary and attempted burglary all in the same night. As businesses prepared to open Saturday morning several found their doors had been smashed and others not only found broken windows, but items missing as well. Magoffin County Sheriff Carson Montgomery says their investigation is going well.

“We do have several suspects in mind it’s just going to take a few days, due to the rush and so many calls coming in. Kentucky State Police answered some, we answered some, Salyersville City followed up on complaints. We should have arrests made for the cases we are working maybe as soon as later this week.”

One business owner says the burglary cost him much more than the few hundred dollars that was taken.

“The register cost money, the back door cost money, and we had to replace the back door the glass was just shattered. We figured that the cost of this is about 2,200 dollars.”

Video surveillance footage of the burglaries has been a big part of identifying the suspects.

“They took something and broke the glass out of the door and then entered in and walked down through the restaurant. One of the guys stopped and got Cokes and Sprite out of the Coke machine, the other guy starting taking the register. He jerked the chord out of the wall and then went through the safe and you can see them walking back out toward the back of the restaurant.”
