Traffic stop leads to two arrests for meth and fentanyl trafficking

McDOWELL, Ky. — Two Floyd County men were arrested for meth and fentanyl trafficking, after a state trooper saw one of them driving and knew that his license was suspended.

The officer spotted Michael Hoover, 54, of Eastern, driving along Route 680 at McDowell, and knew that his license had been suspended for DUI and that he was also wanted on a couple of active warrants.

After pulling him over, the officer asked Hoover if he had anything illegal on him and was told that he had a loaded syringe in his left sock and drugs in his right sock. Hoover reportedly told the officer that he didn’t plan to use the drugs, but that he had heard there was “bad dope” going around, so he was going to take it home to test it.

During a search of the car, the officer noticed Hoover’s passenger — Johnny Martin, 68, of Eastern — holding a pillow in his lap, then found meth and fentanyl inside the pillowcase. Hoover and Martin claimed they had no idea how the drugs got inside the pillow.

Both men were arrested and charged with trafficking in meth and fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia.
