Matthew Owens, 51, was arrested after the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office got a tip back in March that he was on his way to sell meth. When deputies caught up with him at a gas station, they noticed he had a square bulge in his pants, but he denied having anything in his pants when questioned about it.

After arresting him for an outstanding warrant out of Ohio, police searched him and found a nylon case in his underwear containing more than 100 grams of meth, nearly 2 grams of fentanyl and a small bag of pills. He was later indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of possession of more than 50 grams of meth and fentanyl with the intend to distribute and felon in possession of a firearm.

On Monday, he appeared in court to answer the charges for the first time. After pleading not guilty, the judge set the case for trial on Feb. 9.

If convicted, he faces up to 30 years for the drug charge and 15 years for the gun charge.
