HINDMAN, KY — Devon Skeens has announced he will seek a seat on the Hindman City Council, pledging a practical and community-first approach to local leadership.

Skeens, a Hindman lawyer, said his campaign will focus on improvement of city services, infrastructure improvements, developing downtown businesses, and attracting regional tourism to the Hindman area.
“The finest people on Earth call Hindman home,” Skeens said. “The finest people on Earth deserve the finest small town on Earth. There is currently so much more that our town could be doing to increase prosperity for all of our citizens, regardless of socio-economic status. We need bold thinking, outside-the-box audacity, and a fearless commitment to a Hindman that reflects the people who live here.”
Skeens’ campaign Facebook page says he supports economic initiatives that encourage outside business investment in Hindman, along with aggressive strategies to encourage visitors already traveling into and through Knott County to make the short detour to downtown Hindman.
“Hindman in many ways is perfectly situated to appeal to east Kentucky businesses: we aren’t far from Hazard, we aren’t far from Prestonsburg, and we aren’t far from Pikeville,” Skeens said. “For a business looking to triangulate the larger populations of those three cities, Hindman is a perfect location. God has given us a picturesque landscape and a wealth of natural draws for tourism. The city’s job is to ensure that when people come, they can’t help but stop in downtown. Then the city’s job is to ensure that this new revenue is used to make Hindman a premier Eastern Kentucky community for the citizens who live here.”
