WISE, Va. — A commercial truck driver has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular manslaughter for his role in a fatal DUI crash in Wise County earlier this year.

Travis Lee Tolliver, 31, of Jackson, Ohio, admitted to being under the influence of meth, fentanyl and amphetamines when the crash occurred back in February.

Tolliver was driving an International 9400 the wrong way in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23, when he struck a Chevy Cruze head-on. The driver of the Cruze, Amanda Gail Pearson, was maimed and had to be flown to a Tennessee hospital for treatment. A passenger in her car — Perry Shea Owens — died at the scene.

“This is a tragic case in which an innocent life was cut short because of the reckless and selfish actions of an intoxicated driver,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Slemp said in a statement. “We are determined to hold this man accountable for his senseless crimes.”

Tolliver now faces a maximum of 26 years in prison. He will be sentenced in October, following a pre-sentence investigation.
