WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — At the end of December, just before Christmas, the Tug Valley Relay for Life Committee received an email from the American Cancer Society stating a traditional Relay for Life event will not be held in the Tug Valley area in 2018. According to the email, the American Cancer Society has taken a careful look at the history of the Relay for Life of Tug Valley and it believes there is a more efficient and impactful way for the community to support the organization but the A.C.S. team doesn’t know what that looks like right now and will need help figuring it out. The Tug Valley area has hosted a traditional Relay for Life event for almost 20 years. Former Event Lead Chris Dotson says last years event met and exceeded its fundraising goal for the year. She says the email came as a shock to everyone involved with the organization. Dotson added, community members and residents are still encouraged to support American Cancer Society events. She says the committee is in the works of providing more non-traditional events in the future and will let the community know about them once everything is finalized.
