Two Arrested Fleeing Police

Pikeville, KY — A motorist assist call Tuesday night led to two Pike County men being arrested. According to arrest citations, Pikeville Police responded to the call shortly after 10:00 PM on U.S. 23 at the Buckleys Creek intersection. As officers arrived, they saw two men jump from the backseat of the vehicle and run into the hills. A female was also in the vehicle with a small child in her lap. One man, 19-year-old Dylan Hopkins of Shelbiana was apprehended on U.S. 23 and was found to be under the influence. The other man, 26-year-old Devery Shanowat of Pikeville was found hiding in bushes and refused commands to come out. As officers removed him from the bushes, Shanowat became combative but after a brief struggle, officers placed him under arrest. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a 9 mm handgun in the backseat floorboard. The weapon was loaded to maximum capacity with a round in the chamber. Dylan Hopkins was charged with public intoxication of a controlled substance, fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest. Shanowat was charged with resisting arrest and possession a handgun by a convicted felon. Both were lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. No charges were placed against the female.
