Unplanned stops of traffic possible on US 23 near Ivel slide

IVEL, Ky. –  Motorists on US 23 at Ivel should expect unplanned stops as work begins to clear debris on the mountain above the roadway. Work began Monday morning to remove debris and material above where those driving on the highway can see.  Chief District Engineer for Highway District 12 Mary Westfall-Holbrook said crews at the bottom are in constant contact with those working on the mountain, and will stop traffic if and when mud and debris come off the hill.  Crews are making their way from the top down to two rocks the size of a large SUV that are perched on a ledge above the highway.  The unplanned traffic stops will continue all week during the hours of 9:00 a.m. until dark each day.
