IMG_0761 Pikeville, Ky.—In an update to a story we brought you last night. A Pike County man who ran from police was apprehended early this morning.

It happened around 8:30 in front of Pikeville Medical Center, when a passenger van traveling from Harolds Branch ran across both lanes of Bypass Road, over a steep embankment and became stuck.

The driver of the vehicle — 40-year old Colby Akers, of Dana — fled on foot as Pikeville City Police and first responders were arriving on scene. Police saw Akers run into a drain that leads to the McDonald’s parking lot on Baird Avenue.

Akers was located a little after midnight when PMC security reported a man fitting Akers’ description asked an employee for a ride as she was leaving the hospital. Officers found Akers in the PMC pharmacy parking lot. Akers attempted to run again, but was quickly apprehended.

Akers was charged with public intoxication and fleeing and evading police and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
