Updated Chief Logan statue unveiled in Williamson

CHIEFWILLIAMSON, W.Va. — During Williamson’s Mistletoe Market and Small Business Saturday, the Appalachian Leadership Academy at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College unveiled the newly-painted Chief Logan statue. The goal for A.L.A. students is to engage in different forms of community service while in the program. This year, the students wanted to focus on beautifying the community. A.L.A. has six students in the program this year and those students spent their time and money re-painting the Chief Logan statue outside the Historic Coal House in downtown Williamson. The students agreed Chief Logan is one of the first things visitors see when visiting Williamson. The students still have a few more finishing touches to complete but will finish the project in the spring. Students say they learned a lot about Chief Logan while researching the project.

During their research, the Appalachian Leadership Academy saw that Chief Logan carried a staff and they are currently trying to locate one for the final touches of the statue.
