Victim identified in deadly crash

The victim in Tuesday’s deadly crash in Pike County has been identified.

According to Kentucky State Police, the driver who died in Tuesday’s two-vehicle crash near Shelby Gap, just south of Dorton, was identified as 49-year-old Quentin Bentley, of Honaker, Virginia.Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash, KSP said.

The crash occurred on Ky. 805 just before 4 a.m. Tuesday. Bentley was driving a Ford Taurus, which collided head-on with a Ford F150 pickup truck, the driver of which has not been identified by police. Bentley was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken by personal vehicle to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to the statement from KSP, the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The crash investigation was complicated Tuesday morning when a high-speed vehicle pursuit entered into the accident scene while emergency personnel were still responding. That pursuit ended when police shot and killed the driver of the vehicle which was being pursued. That person has not yet been identified, nor has any official word about what caused the pursuit been released.

The fatal crash which killed Bentley and the chase which resulted in the officer-involved shooting were not released, police said.
