Weekend snowstorm creates travel trouble

PIKEVILLE, Ky. –  We saw our first significant snow storm move through the region over the weekend. And, Monday morning, the majority of schools in the area either cancelled or delayed the start of classes.  Most of the major roads in southeastern Kentucky were in pretty good shape for Monday morning’s commute.  But, officials with Highway District 12 say planning for the snow was a difficult task, as the exact track and timing of the storm was nearly impossible to pinpoint.  Highway District 12 Chief District Engineer Mary Westfall-Holbrook also said to be cautious traveling this evening through the night tonight as temperatures will drop into the teens, causing the possibility of more slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.
