Winterizing your vehicle now can help prevent accidents in the future

With the Winter holidays approaching, many families will be traveling long distances to gather with loved ones. Taking the time to prepare your vehicle for icy roads could prevent an accident as you travel this Winter. Information Officer at Highway District 12, Sara George says that it’s easier to go ahead and prepare your vehicles while the temperatures haven’t reached freezing levels. George mentions that everyone should check and replace the following items on your vehicle:

  • Battery
  • Windshield Wipers
  • Defrosters
  • Headlights/Tail Lights
  • Fluids including Oil, Anti-Freeze, Power Steering, Transmission, Wiper Solution
  • Belts and Hoses
  • Tires including Pressure, Tread, Rotate

Sara also encourages travelers to pack an Emergency Kit with basic medical items, blankets, ice scraper, a phone charger that is left in your car, and even cat litter for traction during heavy snowfall.
