With floodwaters receding, state now bracing for heat

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Days after a thousand-year storm brought unprecedented flooding to a wide swath of Eastern Kentucky, officials are now warning of high temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday.

With many people still without power, cooling stations are being set up in flood-impacted counties.

Cooling centers have been established in the following locations:

  • Breathitt County — Breathitt County Library, 1024 College Ave., Jackson
  • Floyd County — Floyd County Community Center, 7199 Route 80, Langley
  • Johnson County — Paintsville Recreation Center, 232 Preston Street, Paintsville
  • Knott County — Knott County Sportsplex, 450 Kenny Champion Loop, Leburn
  • Letcher County — Letcher County Central High School, 435 Cougar Drive, Whitesburg
  • Perry County — Perry County Community Center, 354 Perry Park, Hazard
  • Pike County — Valley Elementary, 162 Douglas Parkway, Pikeville
  • Wolfe County — Senior Center, 76 Marion Street, Campton
