SIDNEY, Ky. — Three people were arrested for Monday night after a traffic stop for speeding resulted in the discovery of a sizable amount of drugs being imported into the state.
State troopers stopped a car for speeding on U.S. 119 at Sidney. Police had the occupants — identified as David Howell, 45, and Heather Howell, 46, both of Jenkins, and Isaiah Harrell, 19, of Columbus, Ohio — step out of the vehicle after they detected the scent of marijuana.
A subsequent search of the car revealed 2-and-a-half pounds of meth and 3 ounces of fentanyl in a shopping bag, along with a small amount of marijuana in the trunk.
According to the police report, all three occupants of the car told police the drugs had been obtained out of state and transported to Kentucky.
All three suspects were arrested and charged with importing fentanyl, aggravated fentanyl trafficking and meth trafficking. The fentanyl trafficking charge is the most serious, with a potential penalty of 10-to-20 years in prison.
All three are being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
