The murder trial of James Huffman IV in Whitesburg is winding down, and on Friday, the case will be handed over to the jury to decide Huffman’s fate.

In Letcher Circuit Court Thursday evening, closing arguments were held. Defense attorney Robert Wright told the jury that the events that led to the stabbing death of 24-year-old Michael Hogg on New Year’s Day 2014, allegedly at the hands of Huffman, were simply a series of bad decisions with a tragic outcome.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Edison Banks told the jury that Huffman was the aggressor in the incident that took Hogg’s life, and he was not acting in self-defense.

Proceedings in Huffman’s trial will resume at 9 a.m. Friday, when the case will be handed over to the jury for deliberation and possibly a verdict in the case.

Huffman is charged with murder and several counts of attempted murder.
