Pike County to open warming centers

Icicles on roof. Dangerous icing. Ice stalactites on the house. Poor maintenance of residential buildings in winter.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — With dangerously cold temperatures expected to move through Eastern Kentucky early Friday morning, Pike County is getting ready by preparing three sites to serve as warming centers.

Senior citizens centers at Belfry, Kimper and Shelby Valley, as well as Phelps Fire Department station 1 will be used as warming centers if needed. Those needing to use one of the centers are advised to call beforehand at the following numbers:

  • Belfry, (606) 625-6599

  • Shelby Valley, (606) 639-2224 or (606) 424-4997
  • Phelps, (606) 625-6794

In the event there is not answer at the number you are calling, you can also call (606) 422-7989.
