LONDON, Ky. — A Lexington man has been identified as one of the people charged in a previously sealed federal indictment related to drug overdoses in Perry County.

Hazard Police began investigating earlier this month after 12 overdoses were reported in the community, resulting in three deaths.

Eli Ruffin, 35, was identified as one of two people charged in an indictment related to the overdoses, after he was arrested Thursday night. The identity of the second person remains sealed.

Ruffin is charged with conspiring to distribute meth, heroin, fentanyl and cocaine and two counts of distributing fentanyl resulting in serious bodily injury. The distributing with injury charges could result in a life sentence.

Ruffin is currently being held in the Laurel County Jail.
