Addiction Recovery Care cooperating with FBI fraud investigation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Federal Bureau of Investigation said Sunday it has opened an investigation into suspected health care fraud within the addiction treatment company Addiction Recovery Care, known locally as ARC.

The most recent step in the FBI’s investigation has been to make an online survey available to the public seeking any information they might have about the possibility of fraud. The website includes sections where both current and former patients and employees can submit any information they might have to share. The questionnaire specifically asks patients and employees for information regarding medical procedures which they felt were not medically necessary or were not adequately rendered.

“The FBI’s Louisville Division is seeking information in the healthcare fraud investigation of Addiction Recovery Care, LLC …” the online form states. “No criminal charges have been brought against ARC at this time.

Jessica A. Burke, ARC’s Chief Legal Officer said Monday, “ARC very recently learned that there is a federal investigation into ARC … ARC and its legal team are fully cooperating in the investigation.”

The FBI confirmed the investigation in its own statement Sunday and outlined Monday afternoon reasons why they would reach out to the public to gather information about suspected fraud, as well as part of what would prompt such an investigation.

“In any investigation, if the investigative team believes that a public request for information is needed, a field office may work with the FBI headquarters to create a website dedicated to the specific request for information,” FBI spokesman Tim Beam said. “At times, this can also be done directly using our own field office’s social media accounts.”

Beam also said the FBI wouldn’t comment on the investigation but did say, “There are times when investigative teams believe there might be other victims or potential witnesses that have not yet been identified … This could be because of a number of reasons, including they are located in multiple localities.”
