Alleged sex abuse incidents spans decades

Floyd County, Ky: The Floyd County Court system tries dozens of child sex abuse charges each year. Today 63-year-old Grover Lewis, of Banner, was arraigned after a superseding indictment was handed down charging him with several counts of first degree sex abuse of a child under 12 years of age. According to the indictment handed down against Lewis, the alleged incidents occurred over several decades. Court officials say that it is not uncommon for victims alleged of child sex abuse to come forward as adults.

“I see that often, people can come forward. It doesn’t have to be right when the allegation happens for us to consider that. We go through the process, present everything to the grand jury, let the grand jury to make their decision whether to vote to indict or not. A lot of times I think the… it gives people the courage to come forward when they see that this person is actually charged with something such as this, it gives them the courage to come forward as well.”

In all, there are five alleged victims in this case. Lewis, who was already under indictment for similar charges, now faces eight counts of sex abuse of a minor under 12 years of age, 1 count of first degree sodomy, and one count of intimidating a witness in the legal process. A trial date has been set for Lewis August 6th.
