Alltech spokesperson releases statement regarding Dueling Barrels Brewery & Distillery

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — On Thursday, June 12, multiple sources were reporting that Dueling Barrels Brewery & Distillery could close indefinitely and that several employees were laid off.

After reaching out to Alltech’s corporate team, Mountain Top News received a statement from Pete Weiss, the Marketing Manager for Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., on behalf of Alltech ownership.

The statement reads :

“Our first priority remains the health and safety of visitors, team members and the communities in which we live and work. In light of health risks associated with COVID-19, and the enclosed nature of our visitors’ center, we have suspended public tours of Dueling Barrels. Though we are unable to host tours at this time, we are fully focused on our brewery and distillery operations. We remain committed to Eastern Kentucky, and our stills continue to produce the craft beer and spirits that celebrate the region. We are hopeful that we will be welcoming guests back to Dueling Barrels later this year.”

The statement continues to announce that five team members were laid off at Dueling Barrels Brewery & Distillery.

“Since temporarily closing our visitors’ centers to tours and retail sales at Dueling Barrels on March 12 due to restrictions related to health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been closely monitoring our business operations with particular consideration for our team members. Based on a careful evaluation of our business and the ongoing restrictions related to COVID-19, we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to lay off five team members. Affected roles include full- and part-time visitors center team members. We deeply appreciate the contributions of our team members, and we thank them for their service to Dueling Barrels and to Pikeville. Our colleagues and communities continue to face unprecedented challenges with an inspirational spirit of endurance.”

No specific date has been provided on when Dueling Barrels will be reopened.

We will continue to provide updates if any new information becomes available.
