Several teams battled it out across the region Wednesday night in volleyball, with Prestonsburg pulling off one of the evening’s biggest wins.

The Lady Blackcats went the distance in Johnson County, outlasting the Johnson Central Lady Eagles 3-2 in a five-set thriller. Prestonsburg claimed the victory with set scores of 25-20, 24-26, 20-25, 25-23, 15-10.

The win was just the second of the season for Prestonsburg, which improved to 2-9 overall. Johnson Central slipped to 7-7.

Both teams are back on the court tonight, with Prestonsburg hosting Pikeville at 7:30 p.m. and Johnson Central hosting Magoffin County at 8 p.m.

In other area action, Letcher Central held off Jenkins 3-2, while Martin County and June Buchanan squared off, though stats were not reported at press time.
