Louisa Police Department swears in first female officer

LOUISA, Ky. – Louisa Police Department has welcomed a new officer and made history.  

Patrolman Shelby R. Taylor was sworn into the department Wednesday making her the first female police officer for the City of Louisa.  

Taylor is a graduate of Lawrence County High School and Eastern Kentucky University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in criminal justice and minor in sociology and history. 

During her academic career Taylor received the EKU college of Justice Deans Award and received a certificate of excellence.  

Taylor also holds proficiencies in Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. 

Taylor will be attending the department of criminal justice training for 20 weeks at the start of 2023.
