The 2023 Kentucky primary election is now in the books, and we now know that Gov. Andy Beshear will be seeking re-election by taking on the man who has perhaps been his biggest adversary over the past four years — Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

The matchup is the one most pundits predicted would happen after the election filing came in earlier this year. However, former UN Ambassador Kelly Craft appeared to be surging to a strong second-place finish or possible win, after blanketing the airwaves with a $9 million advertising blitz. But the election night was a disappointment for Craft, as she slipped to third place, behind Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles.

Other winners on election night included Secretary of State Michael Adams, who is seeking a second term. He will now face Charles Buddy Wheatley in the fall.

Treasurer Allison Ball, from Prestonsburg, picked up a win in her bid to move into the state auditor’s office. She will now run against Kim Reeder in November.

Mark Metcalf, of Lancaster, won the Republican nomination for state treasurer. He will face Michael Bowman, of Louisville, in the general election.

And in the agriculture commissioner’s race, Democrat Sierra Enlow, of Hodgenville, and Republican Jonathan Shell, of Lancaster, won their races and will run against each other in the fall.
