FRANKFORT, Ky. — As coronavirus numbers continue to improve across Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear is taking a first step to relax the state’s mask mandate.
Beginning Tuesday, masks will no longer be required for outdoor events with 1,000 or fewer people. The governor says Kentucky’s vaccination effort and declining case numbers are responsible.
“Based on both where we are with vaccinations and what we have seen in recent data, it means if you are at a backyard barbecue, if you’re at your community pool, if you are at an outdoor wedding, especially if you are vaccinated, you are not required to wear a mask,” Beshear said.
The mask mandate remains in effect at outdoor events with more than 1,000 people and at all indoor gatherings.
