PHELPS, Ky. — Police responding to a report of a stolen car last week began their investigation by checking into the usual suspects, and they hit pay dirt.

The car was reported stolen from KBC Mine Road, near Phelps. State troopers decided to first check a few homes where they have recovered stolen cars in the past, and they found it at a home on Bamboo Lane, in Phelps.

They also found Devin Gearles, 28, of Phelps, sitting in the driver’s seat, and when they questioned him about the car, he reportedly said he traded a truck for it.

Gearles was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
