PIKEVILLE, Ky. — We are learning more about events leading up to a high-speed chase in Floyd County earlier this year, after two of the vehicles occupants were charged in federal court.

Back in June, we reported that state troopers attempted to pull over a car containing Ahmad Moore, 25, and Nevaeh Twitty, 20, both of Akron, Ohio, Dean Blair, 23, of Snellville, Ga., for speeding, but the car sped away instead, leading to a chase along U.S. 23 that reached speeds of up to 120 mph just after 4:30 a.m., June 20.

During the pursuit, a package was thrown out of the car and police later recovered it, finding it filled with 885 grams of meth and more than an ounce of fentanyl.

When the suspect vehicle shut off its lights and moved into oncoming traffic, narrowly missing several cars, police called off their pursuit due to the danger to other motorists. However, they found the vehicle at a home on Lick Branch, in Pike County, a half-hour later, and police arrested the suspects.

Moore and Blair have now been charged in federal court with possession of more than 500 grams of meth with the intent to distribute.

Court records indicate police had already been investigating the men as the source of a large-scale meth and fentanyl trafficking operation in Virgie, and had been tracking them through location data on Moore’s cell phone.

An affidavit from the state trooper investigating the case indicates police learned of Moore and Blair from a cooperating witness, who also provided text messages that detailed drug transactions. That led to a search warrant for the Moore’s phone, allowing them to track the men once they got on the Mountain Parkway to head toward Pike County. It was also how they were able to locate them after giving up the chase.

Moore and Blair continue to be held in the Pike County Detention Center.

After Twitty was not charged in federal court, she was released from jail on Thursday.

However, she was arrested again about five hours later, after staff at KFC reported her for acting intoxicated and disorderly. She was arrested for public intoxication, resisting arrest, assaulting an officer and disorderly conduct and is back in the Pike County jail.
