RANSOM, Ky. — Work to replace a bridge Big Blue Springs Road over Blackberry Creek in Pike County will begin next month.
Construction will begin Sept. 1 on the span which crosses the creek at the intersection with Route 1056 near the old Blackberry school.
During construction, traffic will use a temporary detour in front of the fire station. If all goes to plan, the new bridge should open to motorists in late November or early December.
The project is part of the $93 million, 106-bridge contract called “Bridging Kentucky.” Work will be completed by Lexington firms Bizzack and Central Bridge Company.
Close to half of the 106 bridges being updated in the mega-contract are in Highway District 12. They include 14 bridges in Knott County, 13 in Letcher County, 10 in Pike, five in Floyd, three in Martin and one each in Johnson and Lawrence.
