Drug and gun charges could send Floyd man to prison for life

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Floyd County man faces a potential life sentence after being indicted on federal drug and gun charges.

Thomas Edward Shepherd, 48, of Martin, is charged with possession of more than 5 grams of meth with the intent to distribute, discharging a firearm in connection with a drug crime, and felon in possession of a firearm. All of those charges stem from an incident on Dec. 16, 2021.

The discharging the gun charge is the most serious, carrying a potential prison sentence of between 10 years and life in prison.

Shepherd is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center, where is he listed as participating in the jail’s substance abuse program.

He will appear in court for arraignment March 22.
