PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A judge has lowered the bond for a man charged with vehicular homicide in a DUI crash that killed two Prestonsburg teenagers last year, despite opposition from the victims’ families.

Marcus Logan Auxier, 21, of Nippa, is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, three counts of wanton endangerment, three counts of assault, DUI and failure to render aid.

He is accused of being impaired last July when he crashed his vehicle with five other people in the car.
Two of those passengers, 16-year-old Kendra Jade Moreno and 13-year-old MaKenna Reese Barnett, died of their injuries.

Auxier’s bond had been set at $1 million cash, but last week, he requested that it be lowered. During a hearing to consider the request, family and friends of the two girls demonstrated against a reduction.

But on Monday, Circuit Judge Johnny Ray Harris lowered it to $100,000 cash or property. He will be required to wear a monitor and remain under home incarceration, pending the outcome of the case.

Auxier is next scheduled to be in court for a pretrial hearing July 17.
