Coeburn man faces at least 20 years following armed meth trafficking conviction

ABINGDON, Va. — A Wise County man faces will spend decades in prison, after being found guilty by a federal jury of eight drug and gun charges.

Rodney Allen Pickett, 51, of Coeburn, was convicted on Friday, following a three-day trial. The jury found him guilty of five counts related to the distribution of more than 500 grams of meth, as well as three gun charges.

He had been charged with nine counts in all, but the jury found him not guilty to possession of a machine gun.

With the conviction, Pickett now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years, which could stretch all the way to life in prison, when he is sentenced July 16.

He is currently being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail at Abingdon.
