WASHINGTON, D.C. — Next Wednesday will mark two months since widespread flash flooding caused catastrophic damage across large portions of Eastern Kentucky, and that day is also the deadline for flood victims to apply for help from the federal government.
But that could change, if Kentucky’s congressional delegation gets its way.
All six members of the House of Represenatives, including Congressman Hal Rogers, joined U.S. Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul in sending a letter to FEMA, requesting a 30-day extension.
The letter notes that the flood displaced thousands of Kentuckians, many of whom are still struggling to meet basic needs. As such, they leaders argue that the extension is warranted to ensure everyone who is eligible for assistance gets it.
Those affected by the flood can apply for assistance online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA.
