PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — Two people were arrested in Paintsville after attempting to get the password for a stolen laptop from its original owners.

Paintsville Police were contacted by the victims of a theft on Bridge Street two weeks earlier, saying two people with their stolen laptop asked them to come to their motel room to remove the password from the device.

Police went to the motel room to question the pair, identified as Brian Keith Gatewood, 33, and Shasta Nicole Daniels, 32, both of Paintsville.

When they went into the motel room to detain Gatewood, they reported seeing a bag of meth, a jar of Suboxone, several items stolen in recent thefts, and a check written by a Salyersville doctor to the victim’s business, but endorsed by Gatewood.

In an interview with police, Gatewood reportedly admitted breaking into three homes and stealing items. Police say he also said the drugs were his and that he had tried to cash the check. He was arrested for burglary, receiving stolen property, identity theft, meth possession and other charges.

Daniels was not charged in connection with the incident, but was arrested on a warrant for failing to show up for her arraignment on a misdemeanor assault charge back in May.

Both are being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
