Couple charged with trafficking in heroin

A Pike County couple was charged over the weekend with allegedly dealing heroin.

According to court documents, Joshua Marian, 33, and Charity Workman, 28, both of Ky. 292 at Aflex, were arrested Saturday evening along U.S. 119. Kentucky State Police had received an anonymous tip about possible heroin dealing in the Appalachian Plaza at South Williamson.

According to court documents, the responding trooper made a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description given in the anonymous tip. The trooper wrote in court documents that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Marian, “appeared to be extremely nervous.” The trooper also wrote that when Marian exited his vehicle, a “small glass jar” was located with a “white/tan colored powdery substance” that Marian identified as being heroin.

The trooper wrote that he searched the vehicle and located a case in the back seat that contained cash and a working set of scales. Marian allegedly told the trooper that the case belonged to he and Workman. Workman, court documents said, was contacted by the trooper and she allegedly stated that she and Marian had been selling heroin to support their addiction habit. She also told the trooper that Marian had worked for the money found during the search of Marian’s vehicle and that it was not profit from illegal drug trade.

The trooper wrote that during the traffic stop, Marian received a text from a known heroin addict who indicated Marian and the known addict were “making cash” by the Walmart in South Williamson. The trooper also wrote that Marian also received several missed calls from a known heroin dealer.

Marian was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (heroin) and several motor vehicle traffic charges. Workman was also charged with the same heroin trafficking charge. Both were lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and ordered held on $2,000 cash bonds each.

According to the booking log at the Pike County Detention Center, both Marian and Workman were released from the jail on Sunday. They will be arraigned in Pike District Court in July.
