It’s no secret that suspected cop-killer John Russell Hall has a previous criminal record, but many are still unfamiliar with what crimes Hall previously committed. EKB News looked into court documents to get a better understanding of Hall’s criminal past. He has this report.
Hall is currently lodged in the Pike County Detention Center. However long that lasts is yet to be determined, but one thing is already fact: He is no stranger to the jail in Pike County.
Not only is Hall currently lodged on a charge of murder for allegedly killing Officer Scotty Hamilton, but he is also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, one of Hall’s felony convictions stems from a 2012 arson case in which he set fire to a building that was either occupied, or he believed was occupied.
Hall was convicted on a charge of third-degree arson as part of a plea agreement, and was sentenced to five years in prison, but was probated for five years. He violated his probation in 2013 after using a controlled substance.
Hall spent four and a half months in jail after initially being arrested in that arson case.
Hall’s other felony conviction stems from a 2015 case in which he was convicted on a receiving stolen property charge for stealing an ATV. He was sentenced to one year of supervised probation. He served less than 40 minutes in jail in that case, and then served three weeks in jail in late 2015 for violating his probation.
Hall also has a history of charges for violent crimes.
In 2011, he was accused of punching a man several times, but that assault case was diverted and dismissed. A 2011 child abuse charge, in which Hall was accused of assaulting his daughter and threatening to kill her and her mother, was dismissed.
That same year, and in the year before, Hall had domestic violence orders filed against him, which were eventually dismissed. And further back, in 1995, Hall was convicted of cultivating marijuana.
That history is supplemented by several other misdemeanor charges, including alcohol intoxication and DUI. According to the jail’s booking log, John Russell Hall has been lodged in the Pike County Detention Center 19 times, since 1995.
