NIPPA, Ky. — A Martin County man who was being taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center got away from authorities in Johnson County on Friday, but was recaptured about 20 minutes later.
Officials with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Paintsville Police and W.R. Castle Volunteer Fire Department were called to the junction of U.S. 23 and Route 1559, where 33-year-old Joshua Scott, of Inez, reportedly got away around 2:19 p.m. Friday.
Shortly after the search began, someone who saw Scott in a residential area contacted 911. Officers were able to recapture him at 2:40 p.m.
Scott was originally being taken to jail for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Once he was re-arrested, additional charges of escape, disorderly conduct and trespassing were added.
