Fire claims abandoned house in Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Pikeville Fire Department spent a long night battling a fire near downtown.

The Pikeville 911 Center received a call just after 11:30 Monday night of a structure fire on Jay Street. According to a statement from Pikeville Public Safety, when firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were exiting the roof.

Crews worked for more than two-and-a-half hours and were able to contain the fire to that single structure. The home was a total loss.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“We got it knocked down pretty quick,” Pikeville Fire Chief Patrick Bentley said. “We had a lot of extensive overhaul. It was an abandoned house. It still had power on it.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Pikeville Fire Department.
