Fire Department warns of scammers

sam_2Floyd County, Ky.–Scams have reached an all-time high in Kentucky. Reported scams targeting Kentuckians include Publisher Clearing House scams, Student Loan scams and grandparent scams. Now, locally scammers are targeting residents in the Betsy Layne area attempting to collect donations for the Betsy Layne Fire Protection District.

“From what I understand from our Chief today and speaking with him someone is going door to door soliciting money for the Betsy Layne Fire Protection District and we want your viewers to know we do not do that. Our members or Firefighters are not allowed to take up money of any kind for the Betsy Layne Fire Department. We operate under KRS Chapter 75 we are not solely a volunteer fire department we take up tax based money from our citizens in the community.”

White went on to say that if anyone in the Betsy Layne area is approached by anyone attempting to solicit donations on behalf of the Betsy Layne Fire Protection District to call Fire Chief Eddy Clark at 606-478-9010. Callers can remain anonymous.
