Floyd County reports new case of whooping cough

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The Floyd County Health Department has issued a letter informing the community of another confirmed case of pertussis.

Pertussis, commonly known whooping cough, is a highly-contagious respiratory illness that can be dangerous for infants, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

The letter notes that this is the fourth confirmed case in Floyd County this year. The health department is investigating the case and working to reduce spread of the illness.
