Floyd men charged with dealing guns without a license

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Two Floyd County men have been indicted on federal charges of selling guns without a license.

Wayne Tackett, 64, of Harold, and Carlos Hall, 72, of Prestonsburg, are each charged with a single count of engaging in the business of dealing firearms without a license for more than four years. Tackett also faces six counts of transferring a firearm to a prohibited person for allegedly selling guns to a cooperating witness who had been previously convicted of a felony and one count of firearms trafficking.

Both men face up to five years for selling guns without a license, while Tackett faces up to 15 years if convicted on the other charges.

In addition to the criminal penalties, prosecutors are also seeking the forfeiture of 82 guns and nearly $2,000 seized during the investigation.

Both men remain free and have been ordered to appear in U.S. District Court in Pikeville Feb. 13.
