Former Johnson superintendent named to state school board

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The newest member of the Kentucky Board of Education is a familiar face to those living in the mountains.

Gov. Andy Beshear has appointed former Johnson County Schools Supt. Steve Trimble to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Pikeville’s Cody Pauley Johnson earlier this year.

The current term ends April 14, 2024.

A graduate of Pikeville College, Trimble has a long history as a teacher, coach, principal and administrator, retiring as superintendent in 2014.

He also spent 10 months as interim superintendent in Floyd County in 2017.

He continues to live in Paintsville with his wife, Pam.

New Kentucky Board of Education member Steve Trimble, right, said educators like his high school principal, Paul Setser, left, encouraged him to become an educator. Trimble was the first Johnson Central High School graduate to be named superintendent of Johnson County Schools, a role he served in from 2006 until he retired in 2014.
