PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A continuing investigation into Prestonsburg vape shops resulted in two businesses temporarily shutting down Monday after their licenses were revoked.

Police notified Quick Stop Smoke Shop on North Lake Drive and Quick Tobacco on South Lake Drive that their licenses had been revoked, following complaints that the businesses were selling to minors.

But when officers went to Quick Tobacco, they discovered several items of loose-leaf “flower” for sale, which is not allowed. That resulted in Ronak Prajapati, 26, being charged with a felony count of trafficking in marijuana. He is due in court Feb. 14 for arraignment.

The investigation into vape shops began back in October, after several students at Prestonsburg High School purchased vapes at nearby Quick Stop and began exhibiting symptoms of overdose. An examination of some of the products for sale resulted in the discovery that many were mislabeled and contained much higher levels of intoxicating agents than advertised.

After their licenses were suspended on Monday, both vape shops were back open on Wednesday after taking steps to become compliant.

Quick Stop Smoke Shop on North Lake Drive was also temporarily closed Monday. The store is where the investigation into vape shops in the city began back in October, after police received complaints that students at nearby Prestonsburg High School displayed overdose symptoms after purchasing items at the stores.
