ABINGDON, Va. — The final local defendant in a scheme to distribute fentanyl pills in southwestern Virginia, leading to at least two overdoses, has been sentenced.
Cheyenne Cassie Perkins, 20, of Norton, had previously pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. On Monday, she was sentenced to 36 months in prison.
That sentence matched the one given to her co-defendant, Austin Jeremiah Lane, 23, of Norton, who pleaded guilty to the same charge.
A third man charged in a separate case, Paul Mason Perkins, 21, of Big Stone Gap, established a source for the pills through Instagram and Snapchat. Court records indicate he would buy thousands of pills every couple of weeks and the sell them or give them to Lane and Carico to sell. He was sentenced to 42 months in prison.
The case also resulted in the indictment of three California residents who were the suppliers for Perkins and others across the country. They have also pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges and will be sentenced in August.
