Found money lands man in jail

JOHNSON COUNTY, KY.-We have all heard the phrase finders keepers, but did you know that ideology could land you in jail?

A Johnson County man found that out the hard way as an arrest warrant was served on 52-year old Bobby Bevins of Meally Wednesday after a complaint was filed saying he found a wallet and allegedly kept it instead of trying to return it. The complaining witness says he dropped his wallet in a gas station on September 21st of last year and video surveillance footage shows Bevins pick it up and leave a few minutes later. Police say when Bevins was confronted about the wallet, he admitted to finding it, but claimed there was no money inside of it. The complaining witness said there was 900-dollars in the wallet and produced a bank statement showing a withdraw of 16-hundred dollars just prior to dropping his wallet.

Bevins was arrested and charged with theft by failure to make required disposition of property of over 500-dollars, which is a class D felony punishable by up to 5-years in prison.
