
Martin County and Johnson Central gave fans a high-energy match Tuesday night, but it was the Lady Cardinals who found a way to finish on top, 5-3.
Jaz Jude and Faith Caldwell each netted two goals to power the Martin County attack, with Maja Alm-Arnesen adding another to round out the scoring. Jude tallied two assists to go along with her goals, while Hope Caldwell and Alm-Arnesen chipped in one apiece.
In net, Brianna Muncy held strong against heavy pressure, finishing with eight saves to keep Johnson Central from closing the gap.
The win pushes Martin County to 12-1 on the season, their only blemish coming in the Kentucky All “A” Classic against Owensboro Catholic. Johnson Central falls to 14-2 with the setback.
Martin County will return home Thursday to host Belfry at 7 p.m., while Johnson Central gets a short break before traveling to Pikeville on Monday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
Elsewhere in girls soccer Tuesday night, Letcher Central blanked Hazard 8-0 and Prestonsburg rolled past Pikeville 6-1.
