COAL RUN VILLAGE, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has announced a nearly $6 million investment to rebuild the Weddington Shopping Center in Coal Run, which was heavily damaged during this year’s Pike County flooding.

The project, led by Weddington Plaza Partners, will help retain up to 300 local jobs and restore a key piece of the community’s economy. The funds will go toward replacing damaged flooring, roofing, and electrical systems, rebuilding the flood wall, and improving security.

About $1 million in cleanup and repairs has already been completed, and officials hope to have half the plaza reopened within a year, with the rest reopening within three years.

Gov. Beshear praised the project as an example of Kentucky’s resilience, saying communities in Eastern Kentucky continue to rebuild stronger after devastating floods.

“This project is a great example of the positive impact that collaboration and teamwork can have on our communities and will bring economic opportunities back to Pike County and areas affected by flooding,” Gov. Beshear said. “I want to thank the state and local officials and organizations for making this restoration possible.”

Coal Run Mayor Andrew H. Scott also thanked state and local partners for securing the funding, calling the project a major step forward for recovery and economic growth in the region.

“The city of Coal Run is extremely grateful to Gov. Beshear, Rocky Adkins, Secretary Noel, BSADD Executive Director Eric Ratliff, Judge/Executive Ray Jones, Weddington Plaza Partners and all who worked so hard to secure this funding for continued economic development in Eastern Kentucky following the devastating February 2025 floods that ravaged our community,” Scott said.
