PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County grand jury has raised the stakes for a Sidney man accused of shooting and killing another man back in July.

Clifford Triplett, 54, was originally arrested July 13 on a charge of second-degree manslaughter.
At that time, Triplett told police he and James Mounts, 50, were in an altercation, when his gun accidentally went off, killing Mounts. But the grand jury saw things differently, indicting him instead on a single count of murder.
Under the manslaughter charge, Triplett had faced 5-to-10 years in prison, but the murder charge carries a potential sentence of 20-to-50 years or life in prison.
Triplett was indicted last month and arrested on Wednesday. He is being held without bond in the Pike County Detention Center.
