JENKINS, Ky. — The search continues for a Letcher County man who police believe left a grenade in his truck at a gas station, then stole a Jenkins police cruiser Wednesday evening.
Police were called to an unrelated matter at the Double Kwik in Jenkins and arrested Steven Tackett, who was handcuffed with his arms behind his back and placed in the back seat of a cruiser.
As police searched his vehicle, they found a couple of guns and what appeared to be a live grenade in the center console. Meanwhile, Tackett is believed to have somehow gotten free and then fled in the police cruiser.
The cruiser was later found undamaged, according to the Letcher County Sheriff’s Office, but Tackett remains on the run. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.
Police ask that if you know where he is, that you call 911.
